Magic Bounce (Japanese: マジックミラー Magic Mirror) is an Ability introduced in Generation V.

Effect

In battle

Generations V to VI

Magic Bounce reflects certain status moves back at the attacker. Reflectable moves match Magic Coat's list of reflectable moves.

Moves reflected by Magic Bounce can still miss. If Parting Shot is reflected, the Pokémon that originally used Parting Shot has its stats lowered while the Pokémon with Magic Bounce is switched out.

Even if the Pokémon with Magic Bounce is immune to a move due to its type or species (e.g. a Ground-type Pokémon targeted by Thunder Wave, or Dugtrio targeted by Telekinesis), Magic Bounce will still reflect the move. However, it will not activate if the Pokémon with Magic Bounce is protected from that move. Magic Bounce can reflect a move even if the move would fail (e.g. Disable used on a Pokémon that has not used a move or is already disabled) or have no effect on the target (e.g. Feather Dance when the target already has -6 Attack).

Magic Bounce does not activate if the move is used by a Pokémon with Teravolt, Turboblaze, or Mold Breaker. Magic Bounce cannot reflect a move that was just reflected by Magic Coat or Magic Bounce. If a Pokémon with this Ability is in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move like Fly, Magic Bounce will not activate.

If a move targets multiple Pokémon individually (such as Heal Block or Growl), it will still affect each Pokémon that does not have Magic Bounce as normal, then each Pokémon that has Magic Bounce will reflect the move individually. If a move targets an entire side (such as entry hazard moves), if any Pokémon on that side reflects the move with Magic Bounce then the whole side is unaffected; even if multiple Pokémon on that side have Magic Bounce, only one of the Pokémon on that side will have its Magic Bounce activate.

Generation VII

Magic Bounce can reflect status Z-Moves (but not their Z-Power effects) and moves used via Dancer or Instruct. If Z-Parting Shot is reflected, the Pokémon switched in does not have its HP restored. In Battle Royals if multiple Pokemon have Magic Bounce and a hazard-setting move is used, only the fastest Pokemon's Magic Bounce will activate.

Generation VIII

A Dynamax Pokémon reflecting Parting Shot will still be forced to switch out.

Generation IX

385Jirachi.png This Ability effect may be in need of research.
Reason: Which moves are bouncable in this generation? "Same list as Magic Coat" isn't helpful here, because that move is unusable in Gen IX. (This might need its own version of the reflectable move table.)
You can discuss this on the talk page.

Magic Bounce will not activate if the opponent has the Ability Mycelium Might.

Outside of battle

Magic Bounce has no effect outside of battle.

Pokémon UNITE

In Pokémon UNITE, Magic Bounce is Espeon's Ability after evolving. When Espeon would be affected by a hindrance (including slow), the hindrance is negated and Espeon becomes immune to hindrances for a short time. At the same time, this ability deals damage to the enemy that attempted to inflict the hindrance and applies a 30% slow for 1s. Hindrances that have multiple hits, such as Pikachu's Volt Tackle, will have only the first hit negated. This Ability has 45 second cooldown.
